Translators’ Meeting in Lunar Monkey New Year

The fresh atmosphere of spring wind spreading everywhere and blowing over flower buds began to show only yesterday, which all are changing lightly to welcome Lunar New Year. Looking at the vitality of flowers and leaves, we are joyful in state of mind when thinking of the beloved image of teachers’ and friends’ at familiar pagoda on first days of New Year!
In the morning of February 21st, 2016 (LunarJanuary 14th, Monkey Year), the Hoang Phap’s translators had a New Year’s meeting at Hoang Phap pagoda.
Participators are Junior Ven. Thich Tam Dao – Vice Abbot of Hoang Phap pagoda, teachers – editors of the group and many members who translated news during the last year.
At first, the group’s representative reported activities on English Web page in 2015: translation news, essays, Dharma lectures from Vietnamese into English; updating past news, essays and the group will continue translation Vietnamese essays, others section of the Web page. During translation period, the group acknowledged strong points and weak points. Now, news and essays are constantly updated from branches. So the contribution of members is greatly necessary.
Following was teachers’s suggestions on translation from the group. On the point of view of editing, the editor appreciated member’s enthusiasm. However, some factors from the members need overcoming because of the lack of Buddhism knowledge and some errors in translation. On the occasion of this meeting,the group leader put forward volunteer activities of teaching English. The proposition helps members have opportunity to improve English skills and do good deed. All agreed elatedly.
At last, Junior Ven. Thich Tam Dao had some wishes the New Year and showed grateful words of merit to the group. Buddhism has been grown for over 2500 years. Dharma thought accords with modern science in order to bring everlasting happiness to living beings, but it has been thought for a long time that Buddhism is the religion for the old in. Therefore, Junior Ven. was greatly elated by members’s attendance – young people full of enthusiasm and kind heart. They have helped propagate Dharma to foreigners.The Junior Ven. hoped that following teachers’ footsteps, young members continue to propagate Buddhism in general and Vietnamese Buddhism in particular by international language to people over the world. They don’t speak the same language with us but all have same belief!
At the end of meeting, on behalf of the Abbot, Junior Ven. Thich Tam Dao granted lucky envelops, Dharma gifts and invited them with a warm vegetarian lunch.
