Ullambana Ceremony in Hai Phong City

Accepted the invitation of Ven. Thich Thanh Nghiem, the Abbot of Hao Quang temple, Hai Phong City, on August 5th, 2018, Ven. Thich Chan Tinh visited for attending the great Ullambana organized here.

From the past, Ullambana was regarded as one the most important ceremonies in Buddhism, organized for the purpose of showing human’s filial duty to their parents. It reminds people to remember the parent’s kindness and repay to them.

From the Talk, Ven. Thich Chan Tinh supposed that it’s good when people remember their parent’s kindness and create merit and transfer to them during the Ullambana season. But it’s better if we drive the Buddhist teaching to parents for changing their thoughts, deeds, and words and have a happy life in current and later. After all, the power from others, from the Buddha and bodhisattva are not as strong as themselves. What we do for them via merit transfer only help to reduce their temporary fear, can’t take them out of the unwholesome karma had done before. Therefore, instead of worshipping, chanting and doing whatever and transfer to them, we do advise them to learn and practice Buddhism for stopping their bad karma and creating good karma right now.

The ceremony was taken place solemnly with the attending of the most Venerable monks and over thousands of devout Buddhist.
