Update: 12/02/2021
At the moment between the old and the new year according to Vietnamese’s tradition, most people hope to stay at the temple, return to the spiritual source and pray for peace and health of all family members in the whole year.
Welcoming New Year's Eve at the pagoda is an annual tradition of Vietnamese people to pray for a peaceful new year with many advantages. Therefore, the mass have gathered to Hoang Phap pagoda to attend the peace praying rite, wish longevity to the abbot as well as listen to dharma words in the early spring in the hope of winning the current epidemic.
Due to the disease outbreak and somewhat complicated New Year's Eve of the Buffalo is different from last year, the program is brief, all the arrangements are compliance with the regulations, prevention spreads epidemic in the community.
First, the mass has a moment of silence to look back over the year, as well as send peaceful energy to everyone.
After the ceremony praying for peace, on behalf of all the monks and Buddhists, Ven. Thich Tam Dong, Vice abbot of Hoang Phap Pagoda paid gratitude to Ven. Abbot Thich Chan Tinh in early spring. He said wishes for a Happy New Year to the Senior Ven., as well as showing repentance from him and his co-cultivators for what they committed. From here, the mass will try to cultivate their best in order to promote dharma and develop the religion.
After that, the mass listened to teachings in early spring and wished a Happy New Year from the Abbot.
He said that we have faced enormous loss of life, health, and property caused by epidemics, natural disasters, storms and floods in the last year. These things have disturbed life, causing great pain and misery for many people. From here, we see that the plague is not created by a god or made it go away, but it all comes from the human; in fact, the person who has the ability to heal is also human. So, we are owners of our karma and inherit it; human suffering or happiness depends on how we live. Based on the law of cause and effect, we accept the consequences of wrong actions, at the same time transform bad causes into good ones by our practice, doing good deeds with the hope of a happy new year.
Then, the monk sent red pocket and dharma gifts to the participants in the New Year’s Eve.
The attendees followed the instructions, gradually keeping their distance to receive lucky money pockets from the Master.
