Candle Lighting Ceremony to commemorate Amitabha’s Buddha and welcome the New Year in 2026 at Dong Cao Pagoda – Thanh Hoa

On Jan. 01st, 2026 (Nov. 13th, LC), Dong Cao pagoda in Thanh Hoa province (belonging to the Hoang Phap pagoda s’ sect) solemnly organized the Candle Lighting Ceremony to commemorate the Amitabha Buddha and welcome the New Year with the attending of crowded Buddhists.
The radiant light of Amitabha Buddha shines in the Pure Land
This Land welcomes all sentient beings
With sincere vows, we sever karmic ties
Prays for rebirth in the Pure Land, peace everywhere.
The embodiment of noble virtues with boundless compassion and perfect wisdom, Amitabha Buddha is a solid support for sentient beings to rely on, transforming their inner self to attain peace and happiness. Harmony with the glad atmosphere to commemorate the Amitabha Buddha, Dong Cao Pagoda (Thanh Hoa province) officially opened the 24th Retreat “Learning the Practice as the Buddha teachings” on Nov. 7th – 12th, 2026 to sow merit and spread love by Buddhist activities, such as the wedding for young couples; the ceremony of taking refuge in the Three Jewels for Buddhists in the Amitabha Buddha Birthday.
Prajna bells and drums grumbling at 19h p.m, the Sangha was mindful towards the stage to witness the great ceremony. The ceremony was attended by Junior Thich Tam Hung, Abbot of Dong Cao pagoda, Head the organizers; Junior Thich Phuoc Hoa, Abbot of Giac The pagoda, Hue City, and Junior Thich Giac Tho as the monks of Giac The pagoda; Junior Thich Tam Du, Abbot of Trang An pagoda, Nghe An; Junior Thich Tam Dieu, Abbot of Bao An pagoda, Hai Phong City; Junior Thich Tam Trong, Abbot of Nhat Phap pagoda, Dong Nai and Buddhists everywhere returned to the temple to attend.
On behalf of the present mass, Buddhist Lien Hien introduced the ceremony's reason, and Buddhist Lien Thanh had an opening speech in the Candle lighting ceremony.
All practitioners directed their minds to the statue of Amitabha Buddha to offer incense for Him after the prayers and praises to the Buddha. Next, Junior Thich Tam Hung together with the mass read the poem “Reciting the Buddha's name, following the Buddha's example”, and "Twelve prayers of reciting the Buddha name," composed by Most Thich Chan Tinh.
On behalf of the Venerable, Monks and Nuns, Junior Thich Phuoc Hoa praised the spirit of service for the Dharma of the Abbot and Buddhists in the candle lighting Night. He imparted his teachings by saying "Anger is punishing oneself for the mistakes of others." He also taught methods for abandoning anger so that practitioners could together build a Pure Land, living in peace and serenity.
There is a music show with singers Hai Ly and Khanh Huyen performing the songs "Praise to the Amitabha Buddha" and “Pure land paradise”.
The candle lighting night to celebrate Amitabha Buddha’s birthday closed with miraculousness amidst the light of compassion and wisdom, dispelling all the troubles and sufferings of human life, making way for the blossoming of the flower of compassion and the fruitfulness of virtue. Finally, representing the Buddhists community, Buddhist Lien Thanh offered gifts and donations to the monks present; each Buddhist also was given a small gift.
