Repentance ceremony on April 29th, year of the Horse at the pagoda
Update: 14/06/2026
The repentance ceremony at Hoang Phap Pagoda was attended by a large number of male and female Buddhists, devotees on April 29th, LC. Before the ritual, the monks of Hoang Phap Pagoda, Junior Thich Tam Duoc had a dharma talk named “Entrance to the religion” to all attendees.
Reviewing Part 1 of the dharma "Entrance to the religion" on faith and precept, he clearly stated the Buddhists need to practice these two things first, as they are the gateway to enlightenment, reducing greed and anger, and increasing wisdom. Buddhists need to cultivate eight noble beliefs, as following: belief in the Buddha, belief in the Dharma, belief in the Sangha, belief in the precepts, belief in karma and its consequences, belief in the master teaching us, belief in the correct practice of Noble Eightfold Path, and belief in our own ability to practice precept, concentration, and wisdom.
The practice of the five precepts of Buddhists —refraining from killing, stealing, adultery, lying, and consuming alcohol and addictive substances—is a protective barrier for each person's life.
"Entrance to the Religion" of part 2 focuses on strengthening eight noble beliefs and practicing precepts. The essence of precepts is goodness, benefiting itself and others, and remembering the precepts leads to diligent practice. Precepts form the foundation for concentration, from which wisdom is opened.
The monk encouraged the listeners to diligently study the Dharma to gain a correct understanding of impermanence, suffering, and non-ego, so that we may attain peace and stability in this life. By diligently accumulating knowledge of precepts, concentration, and wisdom, Buddhists learn to live virtuously, do good, and strive for higher ideals.
As the Buddha taught in the Dhammapada:
“When with wisdom one discerns
the dukkha of conditioned things
one wearily from dukkha turns
treading the Path to purity"
After the Dharma talk, the mass entered the penitential ritual at 19: p.m.
