Repentance ceremony on December 14th, year of the Snake
Update: 02/02/2026
In harmony with the joy of the Lunar New Year approaching, male and female Buddhists still remark on the repentance ritual to practice and correct their body, speech, and mind towards a noble spiritual life of Feb. 1st, 2026 (Dec. 14th, LC).
Abbot of Hoang Phap pagoda, Junior Thich Tam Truong had a dharma talk named “The significance of the repentance day” to the mass before the rite.
By thoroughly applying the "repentance," Buddhists have the opportunity to reflect on themselves, recognize their mistakes, and vow not to repeat them, thereby increasing good minds on the path of practicing the Dharma—a journey of self-reflection, also right thinking arises on each chanting or meditation session because we contemplate the Buddha's teachings with a pure mind. As a result, practitioners no longer cling to their ego or biases, but experiences will renew by positive transformation in body, speech, and mind, progressing on the learning dharma by careful selection and consideration with a benevolent heart. Thus, spiritual practice is about turning inward, recognizing and observing mistakes to correct them, and cultivating good karma to benefit oneself and others.
After the Dharma talk, the mass began the penitential ritual as usual.
