A Ceremony Commemorating to Celebrate Achievement of the Sakyamuni Buddha at Suoi Phap pagoda - Tay Ninh
Update: 29/01/2026
Crowded of male and female Buddhists returned to Suoi Phap Pagoda, Tay Ninh province, (belonging to the Hoang Phap Pagoda ‘s sect) to attend commemorating "The Enlightenment Day of Shakyamuni Buddha" on the evening of Jan. 26th, 2026.
The Abbot of Suoi Phap Pagoda, Junior Thich Tam Huong came and gave a Dharma talk titled "The Significance of the Buddha's Enlightenment." This event holds immense meaning for Buddhist followers in particular and all of humanity in general, marking the appearance of a saintly figure incarnated in the world. That represents the process of cultivating the Paramita and practicing the Bodhisattva path to perfection in order to save sentient beings from sorrow and the cycle of reincarnation.
According to Mahayana Buddhism, Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment on the 8th day of the lunar Dec. After leaving the palace to practice asceticism and seek the path to liberation, and studying with two renowned masters, Kālāma and Rāmaputta, He reached the state of neither thinking nor not thinking, the highest zen attainment in the Three realms and ascetics of His time but not the ultimate liberation. Finally, He realized the path to practice and enlightenment could only be sought within Himself, not outside. With utmost determination, He meditated under the Bodhi tree and attained supreme enlightenment, taking the Buddha name Siddhartha Gautama.
In the Anguttara Nikaya I, chapter One Person, page 28, it is taught: "Bhikkhus, the appearance of such a person is rare in this world. Who is it? It is the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened One. The appearance of such a person is rare in this world." His enlightenment perfected his practice, fulfilling the Bodhisattva path to save sentient beings from suffering, illuminating the path of wisdom for humanity immersed in ignorance and the bondage of afflictions. Commemorating the day of the Buddha Shakyamuni's enlightenment is a reminder for His disciples to live in mindfulness, awareness, and actively and courageously spread the Buddha's teachings everywhere, bringing peace and happiness to all beings.
Following the Dharma talk, the mass performed a candle-lighting ritual to direct their hearts towards the light of compassion and wisdom, relying on the light of the Tathagata so that each person may walk correctly on the path of learning and practicing according to the Buddha's teachings.
The great ceremony celebrating the Buddha Shakyamuni's achievement was successfully completed to the joy of the participants at Suoi Phap Pagoda, TayNinh province.
