Children Summer Retreat at Tay Khanh Pagoda

On July 16th-18th, 2020 (lunar May 26th -28th, the year of the rat), Tay Khanh Pagoda (Cao Mai village, Quang Hung commune, Kien Xuong district, Thai Binh province) organized the Summer Retreat for the children. This is the way of helping the children who approach Buddhism to build a civilized, compassionate, ethical lifestyle and then apply Buddha Dharma to life in family, school and society.
In the morning of July 16th, participants went to the retreat to do the enrolling process. In the afternoon, the monks in the Organizers Board instructed all attendees in arranging accommodation places, dividing them into the groups.
Next, Junior Ven. Thich Tam Kinh, the abbot of Tay Khanh Pagoda, the Head of the Organizing Board had a few words of encouragement for their spirit of cultivating and studying. After that, he shared the internal rules of the retreat and advised attendees to study diligently and should cherish their meaningful time in this retreat.
On July 17th-18th, 2020 (lunar May 27th -28th, the year of the rat), Junior Ven. Thich Tam Sy, the monk of Hoang Phap Pagoda had a dharma talk to the children revolving around teachings of the Buddha. This helped children better understand about the Buddha's living. At the same time, he also told short stories about the good examples in overcoming difficulties at home and at school, so that they could be used as methods to apply in life.
After that, Junior Ven. Thich Tam Kinh and Abbot of Tay Khanh pagoda told stories and introduced children in the retreat about the Buddhas to be worshiped at the temple.
In addition to the time of practice, chanting, listening to the Dharma ... the children also got to play collective games.
Next, Monks instructed children to sit meditation. Before ending the retreat, each child received a gift from the Organizers as the books Lessons For Kids, Stork Story.
The retreat closed in the joy of children. The participants learned how to live in the temple, studied valuable lessons to be the foundation for their future and then joined in some useful games for summer holidays. Their parents were very moving when their children had wonderful summer days.
