Dharma talk "Having no practice is very suffering" - Senior Thich Tri Hue in the 107th Seven-day Retreat

On Jan. 01st, 2026, the 3rd day in the 107th Seven-day Retreat, Senior Thich Tri Hue, Standing Member of the Central Dharma Propagation Board, Abbot of Phap Tang pagoda, HCMC had a dharma talk named "Having no practice being very suffering" in the Dharma-wheel Building 's main hall .“Reciting the Buddha's name and letting go of feeling is the key to a peaceful and joyful life of spiritual practice, free from all suffering.”

The Senior wished the Buddhists a day of practice filled with benefit and purity. "Having no practice is very suffering" was the title of his Dharma talk and also his reminder to learners and practitioners. Humans are often caught in the cycle of suffering due to attachment and clinging to five sensations: joy, pleasure, pain, sorrow, and equanimity. Ignorance leads to the creation of karma – evil karma is the cause that pushes beings into evil realms of animal, ghost, and hell.

In the Anguttara Nikaya sutra taught, "The sea has only one taste, salty; similarly, the Buddha's teachings have only one taste, which is liberation." Thus, the Senior reminded practitioners of five practices needed:

-Developing Bodhicitta to steadfastly and diligently strive towards deliverance.

-Making a vow to diligently uphold the precepts as this is the foundation of goodness leading to a noble life.

-Extending compassion and loving-kindness towards all people.

-Accumulating merit by joyful giving and deep faith in causes and effects.

-Harmonizing with various practices to complement learning and applying, also avoiding discrimination and clinging to any sects.

Spiritual practice is a journey of correct understanding – knowing how to abandon evil and do good, and purifying the mind, so that all suffering disappears by letting go of sensations and abiding in the present moments.
