Dharma talk "The final message from the genius Steve Jobs,” preaching by Senior Thích Phuoc Tien in the 107th Seven-day Retreat

On the 4th day in the 107th seven-day Retreat of Jan. 02nd, 2026, Senior Thich Phuoc Tien – Vice General Secretary of Viet Nam Buddhist Research Institute, Standing Member of the Central Buddhist Propagation Board of VBS, Abbot of Tuong Van Monastery (HCMC) preached a Dharma talk named "The final message from the genius Steve Jobs” in the Wheel-Dharma Building's main hall. Head Master Thich Chan Tinh of Hoang Phap Pagoda visited, encouraged, and gave a Dharma talk to the Buddhist practitioners during the retreat in the afternoon.

"We should pursue other things when we have accumulated wealth for a lifetime."

 

The Senior emphasized the importance of correct understanding in both spiritual and material life. A correct understanding of the truths taught by the Buddha will help practitioners avoid errors that impoverish the true value of truth. The Buddha taught us about impermanence so that we may strive to do good, develop our inner living, and avoid viewing life with a one-sided or extreme perspective, because it fosters a life of indulgence and uselessness. Knowing impermanence allows each person to proactively prepare themselves, aiming for a life of practice according to the Buddha's teachings, bringing benefit and peace. He also advised practitioners to make choices about their health, because when the body is at peace, one can calmly continue practicing and developing virtuous deeds.

 

Most Master Thích Chân Tính of Hoằng Pháp Pagoda visited the Dharma-hall Building in the afternoon to offer encouragement and guidance to the practitioners on their spiritual path.

 

Most Master joyfully congratulated the Buddhists having the good fortune and merit to participate in the 107th Retreat. The times are full of unpredictable changes such as natural disasters, wars, and conflicts, leaving behind so much loss and suffering for humanity. As Buddhists, we must deeply believe in cause and effect because everything operates within this law: sowing good seeds yields good fruits, sowing evil seeds yields evil fruits. By this, he advised the Buddhists to always vow to meet the Buddha's teachings, because only when we have the opportunity to know the His teachings can we take refuge in the Three Jewels, comply with five precepts— that is a fortunate opportunity for us to learn and practice the Dharma correctly, and deeply believe in cause and effect. With unwavering faith in the Three Jewels, the precepts we have received, and deep belief in karma, we will actively perform good deeds and avoid evil, thereby achieving purity in thought, action, and speech.
