On Jan. 04th, 2026, the 6th day in the 107th Seven-day Retreat, Junior Thich Tam Luan, Abbot of Bao Quang ashram, Dong Nai had a dharma talk named “Thinking about faith and charity” in the Dharma-wheel Building 's main hall.

 The monk clearly explained the role of faith and charity in modern society.

 People often seek spiritual refuge due to fear and anxiety in the face of supernatural phenomena, thus giving rise to belief and faith. Most of us believe that all beliefs share a common goal: to guide people towards a peaceful spiritual life, along with the belief that protects them from all dangers. To achieve ultimate inner peace, correct belief is the root that helps people avoid superstition or the reward-and-punishment system that causes fear.

 A true faith, a true spiritual master must truly help people find peace and tranquility of mind. This is mental food, one of the four kinds of nourishment for human beings that the Buddha taught. By this, greed, anger, and delusion in each person are lessened daily, compassion grows, and wisdom becomes brighter.

Charity is the act of giving with a compassionate and loving heart, bringing good benefits to the recipient. The monk explained that the correct way to give is to have a joyful heart before, during, and after giving without expecting anything in return. That is the way to give that brings complete merit and joy.
