On August 13 & 14, 2016 (July 14 & 15, year of the Monkey), Venerable Thich Tam Hue along with local Buddhists visited Co Am Pagoda in Dien Minh Commune, Dien Chau District, Nghe An Province to attend the Ullambana Festival of Filial Piety (Buddhist Calendar 2560 – Solar Calendar 2016).
In the morning of August 13, 2016 (July 11, year of the Monkey), at Dien Minh Primary School, the mission of visitors donated 200 schoolbags (total value of 17,200,000 VND) and 200 shirts to poor students and difficult families. After that, the mission returned to Co Am Pagoda to attend a ceremony of reciting the Buddhist Sutras to pray for the peace of legendary local family souls, soldiers who died in battles and dead compatriots.
August 14, 2016 (July 12, year of the Monkey), the Ullumbana Festival took place solemnly in presence of all levels of authorities, sponsors and numerous local Buddhists. During the ceremony, Venerable Thich Tam Hue delivered the meanings of the Ullumbana Festival, reminding Buddhists to remember to keep the feeling of gratitude for such four errant favors taught by the Buddha as Parents’ favor, the nation’s, Triratna’s and that of all living creatures. Always bear in mind the responsibility to reciprocate the current parents’ merits, do goods and avoid evils and create lots of happiness and virtue in order to delicate them to the family lost souls’ departing soon from this life and reach serene and pure land.
Those who attended the ceremony were all given a lot of sutras, books like Ullumbana, Titsang, Causes and Effects of three incarnations, Offering-Making, etc., DVDs named “From diseases to medicineâ€, “Too honest to be offendedâ€, “The Light of Buddhistâ€, etc. and a large number of Buddhist bracelets and necklaces.
Many thanks to these following Buddhists: Dieu Phuoc, Lien Kieu, Ai Nu, Thien Nguyen Buddhist group, etc. for volunteering to give gifts to poor students; Vietjet Airlines, Ms. Lung for their discounts on the group flight tickets and support of means of gift transportation.
