Update: 07/04/2026
Dong Cao Pagoda (Yen Phap) in Thanh Hoa held a memorial night, a fulfilling ceremony of the five hundred names kowtow, and chanting the Great Compassion Mantra to celebrate the birthday Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, which build a connection for Buddhists to attend from April 2nd-5th, 2026.
The Abbot Thich Tam Hung guided the Buddhists in listening to the bell to help "purify" their mind. Next, he taught Pure-land practitioners the need to accumulate merit by generating clean faith, vowing to build a Pure Land within each thought, word, and action by the practice of mindfulness in life.
In the ceremony, practitioners had the opportunity to recite the five hundred names of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, whose manifestations are found everywhere to save sentient beings. Filled with boundless compassion and mercy, the Bodhisattva has ability to save sufferings by the "thousand hands and thousand eyes"—the thousand hands signifying the salvation of sentient beings by various means, and the thousand eyes symbolizing the insightful vision and wisdom that the Bodhisattva possesses to understand the suffering of all beings. Therefore, the moment of reciting Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva is when the practitioner connects with the loving-kindness of understanding and boundless compassion, enabling them to embrace, comprehend, and transform suffering for themselves and others.
