One-Day Practice | Hoang Phap Pagoda.
Update: 19/08/2026
As usual, the One-Day Practice held on Sunday, August 16th, 2026, at Hoang Phap Pagoda attracted over 4,000 Buddhists from all over. By 8:00 AM, all participants had gathered in the lecture halls to begin reciting the Buddha’s name, practicing walking meditation, and chanting the precepts.
Following the morning practices, a Dharma talk was delivered by Senior Venerable Thich Quang Thien, a lecturer at the Vietnam Buddhist University in HCMC and the Abbot of Tinh Quang Temple (District 12, HCMC). By precious stories and his gentle, smiling teaching style, the Senior brought immense joy and laughter to the audience.
He skillfully reminded practitioners not to harbor illusions about their spiritual practice, noting how people often ceaselessly direct their thoughts and energy toward others' lives—thereby accumulating afflictions rather than peace and well-being. To emphasize this, the monk cited Verse 103 from the Dhammapada:
“Though one may conquer a thousand times
a thousand men in battle,
yet he who conquers himself
is the greatest conqueror.”
These teachings encourage practitioners to strive in their cultivation and remain single-minded in reciting the Buddha’s name to prevent the mind from becoming agitated. By cultivating inner tranquility, they can gradually transform the seeds of greed, hatred, and delusion accumulated over countless lifetimes. Thanks to this practice, participants develop the empathy to understand the suffering and shortcomings of others, realizing we are all on the same journey of transformation. Consequently, the peace and joy experienced during cultivation serve as a refreshing stream that nourishes the cultivator's heart.
