Pravārana Ceremony in Hoc Mon

On 20th August 2018, Hoang Phap monks came to Phap Buu temple for attending the Pravārana ceremony was held by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Managing Committee in Hoc Mon.

Pravārana in Sanskrit means the end of the Vassavāsa, ending the three months of the rain retreat according to the Buddhist Law in particular and mostly the ancient Indian religions in general. The Pravārana’s aim is spending time for aking self-mistake from others in the full moon of July according to Lunar Calendar. In this day, the Bhikkhu come out in front of the Sangha one by one for asking their mistakes within a practice year. No matter the faults did by intention or no intention, all need to be pointed out in front of others. This brings a great help for the monk because some unwholesome deeds were done unmindful and they themselves hadn’t known, so without pointing out from others they won’t know and correct to be better. Having shown, they will do a repentance and receive one more Dharma age.

In Buddhism, Dharma age doesn’t by the normal time when we were born but from the time one officially taking the full ordination means to become a Bhikkhu or Bhikkhuni. And the three months of Vassavāsa is the chance to improve their morality and wisdom through restraining oneself in practicing and keeping well the Vinaya Rules. By this, a Bhikkhu will take a closer step to the liberation state. So it can be said that the  Vassavāsa is the monk’s belongings for accumulating merit and wisdom for the last happiness in the Buddhist way.

Under the witness of many the Most Venerable Monks and the support of devout Buddhist, the ceremony was held and done well. The peaceful ambiance covered everyone who was there.
