On Oct. 05th, 2025 (Aug. 14th, LC), good men and believing women inside and outside HCMC returned to Hoang Phap pagoda to attend a periodical penitential rite.

Each of us has experienced suffering such as vague sadness, or loss of loved ones, illness or failure. Buddhism calls these states of insecurity and dissatisfaction “suffering”. According to the Buddha’s teachings, the root of suffering is ignorance and craving. Ignorance is when we live without seeing the truth, blind to the impermanent, selfless nature of the world and ourselves. Craving includes three types:

- Craving pleasures are the intense desire for money, fame, status...

- Craving for being is the desire to become something, such as wanting to be rich, famous, born in heaven...

- Craving for non-existence are the desire to end something being bored with life, wanting to commit suicide, denying reality...

Ignorance and desire have pushed human beings to cling to what they consider themselves, and theirs, etc,. leading to the cycle of birth, death, and suffering.

In fact, all suffering originates from our own mind. This understanding is not to be pessimistic but to know how to let go, live mindfully, transform things that lead to suffering, and cherish the good things we have, so that life can be peaceful and happy.
