Repentance ceremony on Feb. 30th, Year of the Dragon

On April 08th, 2024 (Feb. 30th, Year of the Dragon), good men and believing women inside and outside HCMC returned to Hoang Phap pagoda to attend the periodical penitential ceremony.

Before the rite, Junior Thich Quang An, the pagoda Hai Quang ‘s Abbot in Tan Binh, HCMC, Lecturer of Tan Binh’s Buddhist Primary had a dharma talk to share with Buddhists.

 The monk explained bốn-mode repentance so that listeners can better understand the meaning of repentance:

- Great Title's repentance

- Confessing 's repentance

- Contemplating 's repentance

- No-appearance 's repentance

He points out the repentance is easy to practice and suitable for all levels; encourage the mass to change their way of life and behave peacefully in the family: maintain purity of body, speech, and mind; should take refuge in Three Jewels, regularly go to the temple to listen to the Dharma, repent, and practice the Buddha's teachings.

None of us have not ever made mistakes. The Buddha taught that there are two kinds of strongest people: people who do not make mistakes; or people who make mistakes but know their mistakes and correct them. So, can repentance eliminate sins? To answer this question, he quotes the Anguttara Sutra, chapter Three Dharmas, titled Grain of Salt so that we have the right view and confidence, diligently practice, actively transform bad karma, and renew ourselves to have a happy, peaceful and good life.

After the Dharma talk, the mass entered the penitential ritual as usual.
