Repentance ceremony on May 30th, Year of the Cat

On July 17th, 2023 (May 30th, Year of the Cat), good men and believing women inside and outside HCMC returned to Hoang Phap pagoda to attend the periodical penitential ceremony.

 Before the rite, Junior Thich Tam Cung, monks of Hoang Phap pagoda gave a dharma talk named the Death

 

At the beginning, the monk read to the peaceful verse that Buddhists often chant in prayer rites: "May the day be peaceful, the night peaceful ...". Then, he said: "To die peacefully, one must live peacefully" by explanation in Majjhima Nikaya no 131, sutra of An auspicious day (Bhaddekaratta Sutta). There are many surprises that happen in life that no one can foresee. The venerable recalled two verses of the Patriarchs: Don't wait until old age to recite Buddha's name/ There are not many young people lying in cold graves. By specific examples to analyze the "An auspicious Day" sutta, he pointed out the impermanence of life; as the Buddha taught, life has meaning when we know how to live mindfully for the present moment.

 

After the Dharma talk, the mass entered the penitential ritual as usual.
