Repentant Ceremony at Dang Phap Pagoda, Binh Phuoc

In December 25th, 2019 (November 30th, Pig year), as in the invitation of Junior Ven. Thich Tam Quang, the Abbott of Dang Phap Pagoda, Junior Ven. Thich Tam Duoc had a speech for Buddhists before opening the Repentant Ceremony.

In the sharing, the Junior Ven. talked about the topic: “Precepts”.

Seriously invading the precepts

Is like climbing plants twisting trees

That damage themselves

As desired the enemies.

                                 (Dhamapada, verse 162)

“Purification Sect” defines “precepts” as: precepts are cooperative, precepts are background, precepts are not violation.

When will it be called “keeping the precepts”? When our mind tries to get away from killing, stealing, sexual thinking and lying. It means that when the situation gets us to the violation, but we do not be affected, it’s calls “keeping the precepts”. What caused “precepts”? Is is “shame” and “repented”.

- Shame is when we are ashamed of our actions, our thoughts, our sayings.

- Repented is when we are scared by bad things we did. Regretting/afraid of being complained/afraid of being punished by the law/afraid of being depraved by the evils.

In conclusion, “precepts” is the source, the foundation of the good ways growing. “Precepts” causes the samadhi, samadhi causes wisdom. “precepts” causes everything. “precepts” has the ability to destroy the sadness and the pain of human kind. In the sutra, Buddha always compares “precepts” with a kind of medicine which can cure any kind of toxic, especially sadness.

In the Sutra “Samyuktagamas 1”, Buddha said:

Precept-refugees who have knowledge

Practice mind and wisdom

Actively and carefully

They escaped from revolve
