On Nov. 30th, 2025 the 7th "Wisdom Light Illuminating" Competition took place at Hoang Phap Pagoda to help Buddhists learn and understand the Tathagata's "golden teachings.

The 7th Contest of Awakening Buddhist Wisdom.

The Dhammapada is one of the 15 parts of Khuddakapatha Nikaya, are short, meaningful verses spoken by the Shakyamuni Buddha Himself at over three hundred different situations during nearly half a century of preaching. The verses were memorized and compiled by His great disciples of holy monks in the first Buddhist Congress after the Buddha's Nirvana consisting of 423 verses, divided into 26 chapters.

The contestants gathered at the temple to complete the registration at 7: 30 a.m.

The sutra test took place in a dignified and pure atmosphere at 8 o'clock. At the end of sutra testing and examiners' approving, the examination board declared that out of a total of 46 candidates, only 8 candidates were not qualified to pass the registered level, 09 candidates completed 141 verses, 8 candidates completed 282 verses, and 21 excellent candidates completed all 423 verses.

After the examination and review was the closing ceremony. The temple's monks came to witness the ceremony and award the contestants at 10:30 a.m. Next, the Abbot of Hoang Phap Pagoda, Head of the Organizers, Junior Thich Tam Truong had a few words to the mass. The monk pointed out the benefits of studying the sutras for cultivation. The most important thing about studying the sutras is to practice and apply the Buddha's teachings in daily life to transform the afflictions of greed, anger, and ignorance. Thus, practitioners improve their moral roots, awaken compassion in each person's mind, and advance on the path of studying Buddhism.

Before dedicating and closing the contest, the Organizers awarded prizes to the winners based on the corresponding contest. The prize includes: Certificate of Participation in the Program, souvenir trophy, books compiled by Most Thich Chan Tinh. Moreover, Candidates who complete 423 Dhammapada verses will receive an additional reward of 4,000,000 VND; those who complete 282 verses will receive a reward of 2,000,000 VND; those who complete 141 verses will receive a reward of 1,000,000 VND.
