The Buddha’s birthday celebration at Dong Cao pagoda in Thanh Hoa province

In the joyful ambience of the Buddha’s birthday celebration across the country, from city to countryside, from plain to mountainous areas, from mainland to island, etc., mong of those, on the morning of 27 May 2018 (13 April, Year of the Dog), thousands of Buddhists gathered at Dong Cao pagoda in Yen Khoai village, Nga Yen commune, Nga Son district, Thanh Hoa province in order to attend the Buddha’s birthday celebration (year 2562 in Buddhist Calendar and 2018 as Solar Year). After some performances celebrating Buddha’s birthday by some singers and Buddhists at Dong Cao pagoda, Buddhists stayed in two-face-to-face-lines welcoming the honored monks and nuns to the main hall.
The honored witnesses in the celebration were Venerable Thich Nguyen Hiep – Member of directors Buddhist Associastion of Nga Son district as well as the abbot of Kim Lien pagoda in Nga Hung commune, Nga Son district, Thanh Hoa province; Ven. Thich Nu Thanh Thuy – Secretary of Buddhist Congregation of Nga Son district as well as the abbot of Kim Thanh pagoda in Nga Thanh commune, Nga Son district, Thanh Hoa province; Ven. Thich Nguyen Phuoc from Sung Quang pagoda, Nga Truong commune, Nga Son district, Thanh Hoa province; and the monks from HCMC Hoang Phap monastery. To the local authorities, there were some representatives: Mr. Pham Tri But - Member of District Party Committee, Secretary of Party Member of Nga Yen commune; Mr. Pham Ba Bon – President of People’s Committee of Nga Yen commune together with some authorities in the same commune and Buddhists around there.
After the National hymn and Buddhism hymn, the whole assembly stayed silent in a minute to remember the holy sacrificing for Buddhism, souls of soldiers sacrificing for the country and peace.
Then, members of Buddhism Family of Dong Cao pagoda offered the most beautiful flowers to the Buddha and the monks. On the occasion of Buddha’s birthday celebration, as the head of Buddhist Congregation, he gave a Buddha’s Birthday celebration message to the monks and nuns. At the celebration, Ven. Thich Nguyen Hiep claimed this message. On behalf of local authorities, Mr. Pham Tri But and Mr. Pham Ba Bon offered flower basket to Buddha for birthday celebration.
After that, Ven. Thich Tam Trieu from HCMC Hoang Phap monastery stated a lecture: “The meaning of Buddha’s birthday celebration”.
In the celebration, there was a performance: “A hometown pagoda” by singer Hoai Thu.
Especially, thanks to some philanthropists, good men and believing women, Dong Cao pagoda held the program: “1st Helping dream come true” in 2018. With the hope of supporting needy students with the good results in study, the program was founded. Students would be considered through their family situation and academic results in order to praise good exemplary, share and light up their spirits, help dreams come true and support needy students to school. In addition, that was how we expressed solidarity and compassion, supported Vietnamese scholars for Vietnam future. The organizer gave nearly 30 scholarships to primary students with good results in academic year 2017 – 2018, with a certificate and 200VND each.
On behalf of the honored witnesses, Ven. Thich Tam Hung – the abbot of Dong Cao pagoda as well as the head of organizer, stated a word to Buddhists on Buddha’s Birthday, so he decorated as a Lumbini garden with colorful lights and flags for others to watch and follow. Furthermore, Venerable praised the Buddhism spirits together with Vietnamese for a long time and forever. Last words, Venerable encouraged Buddhists to live as Buddha’s children in daily life through little action in order to express their gratitude to Buddha not only in special ceremony but also every day in a year.
To close the ceremony, the monks and Buddhists followed the procedures of Buddha’s birthday celebration and let balloons fly away for peace.
The celebration ended in the joy of the whole assembly.
In the afternoon, the monks and Buddhists continued celebrating Buddha’s birthday at the house decorated as a Lumbini garden.
