Update: 08/02/2020
On Feb. 8th, 2020 (Jan. 15th, the rat year), tens of thousand devout Buddhists came to Hoang Phap Pagoda for taking the Praying for Peace Ceremony in the New Year.
Spring is a time to erase sorrows to receive wishes and love to each person. From here, Buddhists will have opportunity to contemplate what they have done to observe themselves, then determine to practice gaining tranquility in their soul. On the important moments of the first days in new year, we may go to the pagoda to attend the rite praying for good things to whole family. This not only is the beauty of Buddhist culture, but also shows harmony spirit, as well as the influence of compassion, wisdom of Buddhism on human life.
At 9 am, a solemn rite to welcome respected monks and nuns was taken. Before the official rite happened, Ven. Thich Chan Tinh, the Abbot, had some dharma words to all participants.
Thanks to a letter of questions about the ongoing disease, the Senior Ven. shared on this issue. In ancient times, people used to blame unexplained natural phenomena caused by gods. According to other religions, good gods will appear to bring prosperity, happiness if ones live well, and vice versa those are punished.
According to the Monk, the phenomenon of natural disasters and epidemics is happened by many causes, not to be made by any divines. If people still contain a lot of greed and cruelty, they will have to suffer the consequences caused by themselves. By this way, the Monk transferred a message to the mass, if we continue to destroy environment and kill creatures, there will be many unpredictable diseases in the future.
Finished the talk, the official ceremony was taken place. All the people chant the sutra and pray for peace. The mass respectfully recite, pray for a happy new year, hope all people will return to rely on the Three Jewels, practice the Buddha's teachings. Finally, praying for the peace of the nation was made to close the ceremony.
On the occasion, Hoang Phap Pagoda gave to all the participants a handbook “A Gift of New Year” in 2020.
