The Great Ullambana Ceremony of Wisdom Nurturing Class

The Director board of Nurturing Wisdom Class organized the Ullambana ceremony for children, teenagers, parents and Buddhists to attend on the evening of August 20th, 2023.

This ceremony is the major Buddhist holiday to remember and repay the gratitude of birth and upbringing of parents, ancestors.

On time for the ceremony, the children solemnly welcomed monks to the stage at the main hall. The ceremony was witnessed by Junior Thich Tam Truong, Abbot of Hoang Phap Pagoda, the Sangha, children in wisdom  nurturing class, parents and Buddhists.

 After introducing the reason, program and participants, the mass listened to Junior Thich Tam Thach, Abbot of Quang Phap Pagoda, Tay Ninh read the meaning of rose’s pinning.

 Then, there is a quiet minute to commemorate the deep grace of the Buddha, patriarch, parents, the  country, people and sentient beings.

The yellow rose symbolizes purity and nobility. It was pinned to the monk’s robe to pay their gratitude to parents. After that, the children, Buddhists received roses and pinned them on their chests. Each color of the flower represents the sacred feelings of the heart.

Next, the Nurturing Wisdom class offered monks' robes to venerables.

Junior Thich Tam Truong had some dharma words for the kids.

He retold the good example of the Buddha, Arhat Maudgalyayana to help listeners follow. He also reminds kids to think about the hard work of parents who take care of us material things- love. Thinking about his parents, he spoke of his regret for the past when he was not yet ordained. Being foolish and impulsive when young, he sometimes had an attitude that made his mother sad. From the story of the unfilial and disrespectful son to the defective mother who sacrificed her life for her kid, he advised the kids should live well, be pious and obedient so that every day is our Ullambana holiday with parents. He only taught the children to be filial to their parents by four methods: nursing piety, respectful piety, harmony piety, and filial piety; Try to appreciate the happiness of having parents in your life.

After the lecture, the representatives of the children read their gratitude to their parents. At last, there was a part of gratitude candle lighting to make the night more sacred and warmer.
