The monastic confession

On June 11th, 2025 (May 16th, LC) monks of Hoang Phap Pagoda came to Giac Nguyen pagoda to attend a monastic confession rite in the rainy-season retreat, held by the Director Board of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Buddhist Calendar 2569 in Hoc mon district

A rainy-season retreat is a tradition of practice in the Sangha of Buddhism. This is the time when the monks will train their body-mind, cultivate virtue and  increase precept-concentration-wisdom. During this time, practitioners restrain their cultivation life, build harmony in the Sangha, and bring great benefits to lay Buddhists through preaching activities and supporting the Triple Gem. A rainy-season retreat demonstrates a spirit of purity, harmony, and effort in practicing for the benefit of sentient beings.

 

After the ritual at Giac Nguyen pagoda, Hoang Phap Pagoda’s monks returned to their pagoda to settle down at the temple. In three months, practitioners perform all the courses: chanting, meditating, reciting the Buddha's name, prostrating the Buddha, etc...to show his demeanor and vow in his daily cultivation, as well as organizing to preach teachings, basic Buddha dharma, and Pratimoksa commandments twice a month.

05:00 – 05:45 am: cleaning around the temple

 

06:00 – 06:40 am: having breakfast

 

07:00 – 08:00 am: taking individual duty

 

08:00 – 09:00 am: chanting.

 

10:00 – 10:30 am: offering a lunch to the Buddha altar

 

11:00 – 11:40 am: have lunch

 

12:00 – 01:30 pm: take a rest

 

2:00 – 3:00 pm: chanting the sutra

 

03:30 – 04:15 pm: showering and clothes washing

 

05:00 – 05:30 pm: have dinner

 

06:00 – 07:15 pm: evening chanting

 

08:00 – 10:00 pm: self-cultivating or reading, learning…

 

10:00 pm: bedtime
