The Ullambana Ceremony at Hung Phap pagoda, Dong Nai Province

On August 18th, 2019 (Lunar July 18th, The Year of The Pig), over 1300 Buddhists in Xuan Loc district and neighboring districts returned to Hung Phap Pagoda to attend The Great Ullambana Ceremony.

At 9:00 A.M. The Great Ceremony took place at the main hall of Hung Phap pagoda. Beginning the program was the song chanting Đao Ca (Buddhism’s anthem and verse proclamation for mindfulness.  After offering flowers by Oanh Vu’s team, the ceremony was continued with a speech The Meaning Of Rose Pinning by Buddhist Lien Trang. The whole hall seems deposition, on whichBuddhists were touched by remembering parents who gave us so much kindness and unconditional love. 

Junior Venerable Abbot Thich Tam An expressed gratitude to his mother. The Abbot also said something in tearful voice about memories of deceased father for the past 8 years, happy memories of his miserable childhood with his parents. The Abbot talked in a voice choked with emotion. Whoever you are, success or failure in life, the love of your parents for you will not be changed. You are forever a child in mind of your father and mother, no matter how old you are.

 The Sepentance’s Moment of ceremony gave children the opportunity to realize many of their own mistakes. Indifference and rebellion have caused parents to suffer, wither year by year, which helps us know the infinite happiness when being still with parents. Because parents are a precious gift that life has given to us, since then we know to cherish, love parents when they are still with us. 

On behalf of the Sangha, Most Ven. Thich Phuoc Khanh had a few words about the responsibility and duty of each child to parents. We should live on the attitude of gratitude, in which we must be filial to our parents and bear filial piety.

The ceremony ended by rite of praying to transfer for late parents in long time. At the same time, everyone prayed for their currentparents with raising merits and wisdom.
