Three-Jewel Refuge Ceremony at Dong Cao Pagoda – Thanh Hoa

In order to sow faith for followers in study and pay gratitude to the Buddha on His anniversary; on Dec. 1th, 2022 Dong Cao pagoda in Thanh Hoa province solemnly held a ceremony to transmit Three Refuges and Five Precepts for good men and believing women everywhere to become a Buddhist.

After registering in the morning, participants came to the lecture halls to learn right demeanor when they come to the pagoda, such as the manner of clasping their hands, greeting, prostrating, etc, .... Next, Junior Thich Tam Hung explained thoroughly the purpose, meaning of Three Jewels, Belief, religious name, original master to the precept receivers before taking refuge. After that, the mass gathered together to eat vegetarian rice in mindfulness.

In the afternoon, the ceremony officially took place under the witness of all Sangha at the pagoda.

At 14:30 p.m, representatives of Buddhists taking refuge in the Three Jewels invited the monks to transmit Budhists’ Precepts. After the Abbot offered incense to the Buddha, the Buddhists offered their speech to the Sangha to receive their precepts. On behalf of witness monks, Junior Thich Tam Hung accepted, guided the mass to repent and preached necessary rules of Buddhists when becoming disciples at home.

On  behalf of the Organizers at the end of Three Refuge transmission, the monks sent refuge Certificates and gifts of dharma to the participants.

Last, the devout Buddhists returned to the temple to decorate the platform, preparing for Candle Lighting Ritual to commemorate Amitabha’s Buddha on the evening of Sunday, Dec. 11th, 2022.
