Ullambana Ceremony holding by Hieu and Thuong Group

Hieu and Thuong Group solemnly held the Ullambana great ceremony on the evening of Aug. 26th, 2023.

This is a great festival in Buddhism to remember and repay the grace of the birth and upbringing by parents, ancestor, ... 

At 19:00 pm, the mass welcomed the Sangha entering the platform. The ritual took place in the witness of Junior Thich Tam Truong – Abbot of Hoang Phap Pagoda; monks at the pagoda, thousands of men and women Buddhists to attend.

After declaring the reason, introduction of participants, Junior Thich Tam Trieu read the meaning of Ullambana ceremony.

Next, Junior Thich Tam Vuong read monk’s feelings about parents’ merit in Ullambana season.

Then, it was sacred moment of group members offering robe to the Sangha.

Buddhist Duong Ngoc reads the letter of Ullambana season to say the words of the filial son.

Following the program is the ritual of setting roses. The young in the flower pinning team dignifiedly put a yellow rose on the monk’s robe, symbolizing the noble deliverance and gratitude of the monk to his parents. After that, Buddhists receive roses and put them on their chests. Each color of the flower represents the sacred feelings of the heart.

On behalf of the monks, Junior Thich Tam Truong had the Dharma words in the ritual.

Being born into life, we are made human body is thanking to the merit of our parents for being born, and brought up. Ullambana festival every year is like a bell to wake up the heart of a child. This is also an opportunity for us to reflect on our gratitude to our parents. He reviewed the filial piety of Arahat Maudgalyayana, the gratitude of Buddha Shakyamuni when he was still alive, and the Buddha's teachings in the Sutra of Retribution for Parents. Indeed, we should take that as an example to follow, be grateful and repay: diligently practice, encourage parents to learn Buddha dharma, take refuge in Three Jewels, keep five precepts, live righteously and accumulate bless ourselves. At the same time, he pointed out the method of filial piety to parents: nursing piety, respectful piety, harmony piety, filial piety. Since then, we will dedicate the blessings, pray for the present parents to increase their blessings, and the deceased parents to be born in a happy realm.
